In some cases, Web applications are not practical, such as when:

A system is used exclusively off line, as is the case with a field sales forces or loss assessors. Web applications are also impractical when close integration with locally-installed applications is needed, such as in the integration with Office applications. Sometimes special hardware, like a GPS receiver, must be addressed.
